IDK if it's lingering launch issues, stuff introduced in patches, or bad community servers (I've heard EA pulled all official ones and has everything invested in BF1 atm)
on certain servers it's ok performance, on others it's a stuttering mess....with an i7 2600k, 16gb ram, and an 8gb rx 480 gpu, a literal wtf experience lol. I've heard so many differing stories back in the day on their forums too, guys with high end i7 and GTX gpu and even the titans being choppy yet people on those cheap AMD 6 core fx 6300, 8gb ram, and like an r9 270 or hd 7870 claiming they were smooth as hell on ultra lol. Even read a true wtf topic where a guy upgraded from a low clocked i5 2400, crap h61 mobo, and a 560ti to a 2500k, z68 mobo, and gtx 580 and his fps actually got worse >_>
when it wants to not be a mess it's actually fun with friends but, sad all these years later it still performs like crap on a decent gaming pc
I'll have to see how bf1 on pc performs these days, I remember on a cheap 8320e pc I pieced together to test last year it ran smooth as hell in MP, where my old i5 really struggled so I got rid of it. Ended up getting rid of the amd 8 core since I play quite a bit of Arma as well and they don't do too well in that engine, but for the cheap price, it was great for BF
tl;dr whoever coded bf4 on pc should never be allowed to do that again lol.
I remember tom with his overclocked 2500k and gtx 680 having bad problems too back in the day
